About our animal rescue foundation in Islamabad
We started because somebody had to. Strays Home Animal Rescue Foundation began the way most animal rescues in Pakistan begin: with one injured animal, one person who couldn't walk away, and a vet bill paid out of their own pocket.
From one rescue to a sanctuary
In Pakistan, a street animal in trouble has almost nowhere to go. There is no public animal ambulance, very few charitable veterinary clinics, and almost no shelter capacity. An animal hit by a car on a busy road usually dies there, slowly, in full view of everyone.
Strays Home was created to change that outcome — at least for the animals we can reach. What started as a handful of people answering messages grew into a working sanctuary in Pind Sangrial, Shah Allah Ditta, on the edge of Islamabad, where rescued dogs, cats and other animals are treated, fed, sterilised, vaccinated and given the time they need to recover.
We are not a large, well-funded NGO. We are a volunteer-led foundation that runs on donations, borrowed vehicles, favours from kind vets, and a lot of very long days. Every animal we take in is a commitment we have to fund — which is why the support of ordinary people matters more here than almost anywhere else.
What we believe
That an animal's life has value whether or not it has a pedigree, a collar or an owner. That compassion is not a luxury a developing country can't afford — it's a measure of who we choose to be. And that the answer to a stray on the street is never cruelty; it's food, medicine, sterilisation and a chance.
Our mission
To rescue, treat and rehabilitate injured, sick and abandoned animals in and around Islamabad — and to give them either a loving home or a permanent safe one with us.
Our vision
A Pakistan where street animals are managed with humane sterilisation and vaccination instead of poison and culling, and where cruelty is socially unacceptable.
Our promise
No animal is ever charged for. No healthy animal is ever put down for convenience. And no donation is ever spent on anything but the animals and the work.
Five things we refuse to compromise on
🐕 The animal comes first
Not the photo, not the story, not the fundraising. If treatment is the kindest option, we treat. If letting go is the kindest option, we do that, with dignity and without cameras.
💡 Honest updates
We post the recoveries and the losses. Rescue is not a highlight reel, and donors deserve to see what really happens to their money.
💉 Sterilise, don't cull
Municipal poisoning and shooting campaigns don't reduce street animal numbers — they just make them suffer. Neutering and vaccination do.
🏠 Adoption with vetting
We screen every adopter and follow up afterwards. A rushed adoption that fails is worse for the animal than staying with us.
👥 Community over confrontation
We work with the shopkeepers, guards, students and neighbours who call us. They are our early-warning system, and they matter.
💛 Volunteer-powered
Leadership takes no salary from donations. The people you see in our posts are giving their own time, fuel and weekends.
